Zulla launches luxury accommodation in Chebera Churchura National Park in 2022
Zulla Hospitality Management is just months away from launching three fabulous accommodations in the untouched 1,400km2 Chebera Churchura National Park, located in southern Ethiopia, about 475km southwest of Addis Ababa.
The park has rolling plains, lush hills covered by perennial vegetation, mountains, hot springs, and rivers lined with dense forest. Wildlife includes lion, leopard, buffalo and elephant, with a total of 37 mammal species and 237 species of bird, including trogons and turacos.
Until now, the park has not had accommodation facilities or other tourism infrastructure. Zulla Hospitality Management is here to change that. We are in the process to develop a 5-star luxury safari tented camp, and two superb rest and wilderness camps, set in magnificent surrounds and built with sensitivity towards the natural environment.
Lake Bullo Lodge is the jewel in our crown, a 5-star tented safari lodge set on the southern ridge of Lake Bullo, opening in September 2022. There is a large population of resident hippopotamus in the lake and abundant aquatic birdlife. The lodge has been designed so that the main building complex and rooms have views over Lake Bullo and the park’s valley floor to the mountains on the far side of the lake.
The lodge’s 24 rooms and lavish spa are supported by an extensive 1,600m2 main building and kids’ safari center. Activities include a mobile spa, guided game drives, nature walks, stargazing, and cultural activities such as coffee tours, cultural music and dancing, and visits to key historical sites.
Approximately 9km from the park entrance, Shoshima Rest Camp offers luxury glamping and traditional camping sites. The design and services of the rest camp is the first of its kind in Ethiopia and will become the model for similar developments in the future. Located next to the Shoshima river, which is frequently visited by buffalo and elephants, the camp has fantastic views of the river, riverine forest, savanna and mountains.
The rest camp offers 10 luxury glamping safari tents and 35 traditional camp sites, supported by a comprehensive central business plaza with a restaurant, bar, reception and information center, retail shop, fast food outlet, museum and conference center, curio shop, activity center and an outdoor amphitheater. Activities include guided game drives, playground, suspension bridge, nature walks, conference and event facilities, stargazing, hot air ballooning and cultural trips.
Offering remoteness and exclusivity, the Yora Wilderness Camp is situated in the northern part of Chebera Churchura National Park on a hill overlooking lowlands with abundant wildlife.
The camp offers 10 luxury glamping safari tents and 10 traditional camping sites, each with a view over the plains. The camp includes a kitchen and restaurant with a dining area, bar, restroom and viewing deck with 270-degree views of the surrounding lowlands. All activities offered at Shoshima Rest Camp are available for guests who stay at Yora Wilderness Camp, including safari game drives, nature walks and the like. Both camps open in 2022, and the Zulla team is so excited to host our first guests!
